Tohoku University is a prestigious research institution ranked top 3 in Japan. It is also the first and only university for International Research Excellence in Japan.

Our laboratory focuses on research relating to human visual information processing, including perception, attention, and how higher-level information (e.g. environmental context) modulates these functions in the brain. We use diverse methods, including human psychophysics, EEG, fMRI, AI/machine learning and qualitative analysis to construct visual models for industrial applications. We value international and interdisciplinary collaborations greatly. We welcome students with a degree in engineering, computer science, neuroscience, psychology, social sciences, or humanities to apply.

If the applicant has been an exchange or intern student in our lab, this can be exempted.

Graduate Scholarship and Fellowship

After enrolling as a graduate student at Tohoku University, you are eligible for graduate financial support. Our university is the only Japanese university to receive accreditation as a University for International Research Excellence. The University provides funding opportunities for graduate students to participate in global research collaborations and international conferences.
